Lifescapes Camp Create
LifeScape Center for the Arts had hosted “Camp Create,” an adult artist retreat, on March 22-24 at Joy Ranch in Florence, SD. The retreat was open to artists supported by LifeScape as well as other adults with disabilities from the community, ages 19 and up.
Leading the retreat was South Dakota artist, Ari Albright, who had guided the artists through various art sessions. The artists had the opportunity to create several finished pieces by the end of the retreat, as well as participate in creating commissioned pieces that were on display in the Dakota State University technology labs.
In addition to the art sessions, the retreat also offered leisure-time activities for the artists to enjoy. Selected pieces of artwork were put on display at the 2020 ARTSpeaks art show featuring artists supported at LifeScape on April 3, 2020 at the Museum of Visual Materials.
The retreat was made possible by the support of Rosemary Buchmann and USD Art in Health Student Jaclyn Laprath, who assisted Creative Care Director and Lead Artist Ariadne Albright. The South Dakota Arts Councils Artists in Schools and Communities Program also funded this event.
LifeScape Center for the Arts was dedicated to providing opportunities for artists with disabilities to showcase their talents and abilities. “Camp Create” was a wonderful chance for artists to come together, create, and be celebrated for their unique perspectives and skills. Many attendee had seen the amazing artwork that was produced at the retreat and hope that you will joined us at the ARTSpeaks art show to see it on display.
